ICE
Workers
To
Strike
July
30
Thousands
of
workers
of
the
Instituto
Costarricense
de
Electricidad
(ICE)
will
take
to
the
streets
on
July
30,
protesting
the
institute's
"voluntary
labour
mobility"
plans.

The
state
institution
says
it
needs
to
cuts
some
¢80
billion
colones
in
spending,
that
includes
cutting
back
on
some
work
hours,
overtime
and
wages.
ICE's
plan
is
to
reduce
the
work
week
from
48
hours
to
40
and
reduce
salaries
accordingly,
starting
next
moth.
According
to
Fabio
Chaves,
head
of
the
ICE
Union,
ASDEICE,
the
workers
are
against
the
plan
and
will
take
to
the
streets
to
demonstrate
it.
ICE
is
reporting
a
loss
of
¢22
billion
colones,
blaming
the
opening
of
telecommunications
as
one
of
the
main
reasons.
