550.000 in San José Without Water This Weekend

Taps will be dry for some 550.000 living in the south and east side of San José this weekend as the Institutoto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) makes repairs to the hydroelectric plant Río Macho.

The work will be on the water intake and could provoke a reduction in water service on Saturday and Sunday in the areas of Desamparados, Curridabat, Montes de Oca, Coronado, Goicoechea, Moravia, Tres Ríos and Cartago.

The Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA) - water and sewer utility - says that water service may be affected most of the day Saturday and Sunday starting at 8am.

The utility recommends taking the respective measures, such as storing drinking water for basic needs and changing routines for taking showers, baths and doing the laundry.

The AyA says it will use tanker trucks to supply communities with fresh water until normal water service is restored.
