Move Over Amnet As Name Changes To Tigo

The Amnet signs have already disappeared and replaced with the Tigo brand, however, it will not be until next week when Amnet officially, shed its name and becomes Tigo, in offering cable television, internet and IP telephony services.



"The best of Amnet will now join the regional experience of Tigo" is how Amnet introduces the change on its website to the surprise of many.

Norman Chaves, manager of Corporate Affairs, says that "innovation will mark the difference".

Tigo is a brand owned by Millicom International Cellular, (see Millicom Returns To Costa Rica With The Purchase of Amnet) a mobile phone network provider in America and Africa. Based in Luxembourg, the company provides mobile services in 13 countries. With operations across Central America, South America, South-east Asia, and Africa, using GSM, CDMA and TDMA on Africa and Asia, GSM and UMTS over Central America and South America.

Millicom also is the owner of Amnet in Costa Rica, Honduras and El Salvador; additionally the company provides corporate data services in Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Tigo was launched in 2004 in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. In 2006, Tigo launched in Colombia, after launching operations in Bolivia the year earlier and in Paraguay since 1992.
