Cañs
Sinkhole

It
won't
be
until
the
end
of
the
month
before
the
Consejo
Nacional
de
Vialidad
(CONAVI)
announces
a
permanent
solution
to
the
sinkhole
problem
of
the
autopista
General
Cañas.
The
CONAVI
press
office
said
yesterday
that
engineers
and
technicians
have
met
with
authorities
to
assess
the
hydrological,
soil
and
road
studies.
Two
solutions
identified
and
the
focus
of
discussion
by
experts
is
to
either
place
an
arch
under
the
roadway
or
construct
two
bridges,
one
in
each
direction.
In
the
meantime,
work
continues
on
the
relocation
of
the
oil
pipeline
that
runs
alongside
the
autopista.
The
state
refinery,
the
Refinadora
Costarricense
de
Petróleo
(Recope),
has
work
crews
on
site
to
relocate
a 16
metre
section
of
the
12
inch
pipe.
The
pipe
delivers
gasoline
products
between
the
Alto
de
Ochomogo,
in
Cartago,
storage
tanks
to
La
Garita
plant
in
Alajuela.
The
pipeline
also
fees
the
Juan
Santamaria
internarional
airport.
Francisco
Rojas,
distribution
and
sales
manager
for
RECOPE,
assures
that
the
work
will
not
create
any
shortages,
especially
at
the
San
José
airport.
