Continue
Preparations
for
2014
Elections
The
two
major
parties
in
El
Salvador
continue
their
preparations
for
the
2014
presidential
elections,
even
in
the
midst
of
the
conflict
between
legislative
and
judicial
powers,
according
to
reports.
So
far,
the
Farabundo
Marti
National
Liberation
Front
(FMLN)
and
the
Nationalist
Republican
Alliance
(Arena)
are
the
only
ones
to
be
publicly
in
the
race
to
the
elections.
The
FMLN
leader
Marta
Lilian
Coto
said
the
party
formed
a
committee
encharged
of
the
consultation
process
for
the
preparation
of
the
government
program
to
be
presented
to
the
public.
The
national
leadership
of
the
FMLN
confirmed
Vice
President
Salvador
Sanchez
Ceren
as
its
presidential
candidate,
one
of
the
historic
leaders
of
the
organization.
Arena
began
its
process
for
choosing
candidate
last
June,
through
a
commission
led
by
three
of
its
four
former
presidents:
Alfredo
Cristiani,
Armando
Calderón
Sol
and
Francisco
Flores.
The
mayor
of
the
capital,
Norman
Quijano,
said
he
expects
the
report
of
the
committee,
which
also
has
the
proposals
from
other
applicants:
Ana
Vilma
de
Escobar,
Gloria
Salguero
Gross,
Francisco
Lainez,
and
Miguel
Angel
Quiros. |
