Tourism Slightly Increases in Guatemala

Tourism in Guatemala had a slight increase of 1.6 percent during the first half of the year, says a report from the area released today.

According to the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) 889,477 tourists arrived in the country in those months, which represents a slight increase compared to the 875,057 recorded in the same period in 2011.

Tourism generated currency earnings higher by 1.3 percent, as its different branches left $ 650.6 million USD compared to $ 642.4 million USD last year.

The INGUAT expects an increase of visitors of 20 percent at the end this year compared to the 1.8 million of 2011, who contributed $ 1.3 billion USD.
