The
last
couple
of
days
Mother
Nature
has
been
making
up
for
the
lack
of
rainfall
this
season,
raining
continuously
for
more
than
36
hours
and
not
letting
up
in
the
in
the
skies.
The
constant
rain
that
turns
to
downpours
at
times
is
due
to a
low
pressure
system
that
has
been
affecting
the
entire
country
since
Friday.
The
Caribbean
province
of
Limón
has
been
affected
the
most,
forcing
the
Comisión
Nacional
de
Emergencias
(CNE)
-
national
emergency
commission
- to
declare
a
"yellow"
alert.
Also
affected
is
the
province
of
Cartago
which
is
play
host
to
more
than
two
million
faithful
in
the
annual
pilgrimage
to
the
Basilica
de
los
Angeles
to
pay
homage
to
Costa
Rica's
patron
saint,
the
Virgen
de
los
Angeles
or
"La
Negrita"
on
her
day
on
August
2.
The
alert
allows
the
Cruz
Roja
(Red
Cross)
and
Policia
de
Transito
(traffic)
to
properly
attend
to
emergencies,
including
evacuation
of
areas
and
closure
of
roads.
As
such,
ten
people
where
evacuated
due
to
flooding.
In
Turrialba
a
tree
fell
on a
bus.
The
rivers
Regado
and
Reventazón
have
swollen
and
authorities
are
keeping
a
close
eye
on
the
situation.
For
now
there
is a
total
closure
of
the
road
to
Limón
from
Turrialba,
near
the
Cerro
Chirrío
due
to a
landslide.
The
Ministerio
de
Obras
Públicas
y
Transportes
(MOOPET)
and
the
Cosevi
are
working
on
reopening
route
10.
