Despite The Rain Thousands Make Their Way To "La Negrita"

The rain did not deter the thousands that made their way to Cartago on Saturday to pay homage to the Virgen de los Angeles or "La Negrita". Even more are expected to make the pilgrimage today, walking to the Basilica de los Angeles.

In the area of Tres Rios, east of San José, traffic controls were already in place as well as several emergency posts.

From entire families, groups of friends, to single walkers was the make up of "early romeros", making their walk days ahead of the masses, an expected two million or more.

Despite the bad weather an entire family of nine left Guápiles Saturday morning, making their way on Ruta 32, through the Zurqui, with the objective of being at the Basilica this morning. The at times heavy rain and cold did not deter them.

On Saturday, umbrellas covered the devotees from the rains instead of hats from the scorching sun.
