State
Neglect
of
Honduran
Children
Denounced
The
Office
of
the
Children
of
Honduras
today
denounced
the
lack
of
state
attention
to
children
under
23
years
of
age
and
therefore
the
trend
of
increasing
the
number
of
sexual
abuse
victims
among
them.
There
is a
great
need
and
lack
of
attention
from
the
State
to
the
child
population,
said
the
coordinator
of
the
government
body,
Cristina
Martinez,
quoted
by
the
newspaper
La
Prensa.
The
official
reported
that
the
body
recorded
until
Thursday
at
least
300
complaints
of
sexual
abuse
of
persons
in
that
age
range,
after
closing
2011
with
800
complaints
of
this
nature.
According
to
Martinez,
this
year
will
increase
that
figure,
because
every
day
organized
crime
leads
to
dozens
of
infants
to
their
networks
in
this
Central
American
country.
The
parental
neglect
and
lack
of
essentials
for
growth
and
development
put
infants
at
risk
and
on
the
verge
of
sexual
abuse
or
falling
into
the
clutches
of
organized
crime,
said
Martinez. |
