Catholic Church in Costa Rica Sells Sama Stock to Panamanian Firm

The Catholic Church's Episcopal Conference has sold its 25.5% of stock in Grupo Sama to a Panamanian firm, Ronda Investment S.A. The deal reportedly netted the Conference ˘6.45 billion colones.

Grupo Sama began operations in 1976 with a seat on the national stock exchange through its subsidiaries such as investment funds and financial consultant services.

The Ronda Investment is duly registered in Panama's public registry as belonging to Victor Oconotrillo who is president of Grupo Sama in Costa Rica. The Panamanian company, created in 2011, has a contract with Sama to provide financial services for at least a year with option to extend the contract for yearly increments.

Besides Oconotrillo, La Nacion reports that the names Rolando Cervantes and Henry Zamora appear in both companies.
