The Idaho Department of Correction says John Michael Brennan, 41, was taken into custody after being located by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Brennan disappeared in February of 2007. He was on probation for sexual battery of a minor - 16 or 17 years of age - in Ada County.

Costa Rican authorities detained Brennan and returned him to the U.S. on Tuesday. He now is being held in a jail in San Bernardino, Calif., awaiting extradition to Idaho.

“We are grateful to the Marshals Service for helping us capture Brennan,” said Christina Iverson, supervisor of IDOC’s Fugitive Recovery Unit. “He committed a serious crime and he needs to face justice.”

In 2006, Brennan was sentenced to five to 15 years on the sexual battery charge, but the sentence was suspended. He faces additional charges for absconding from probation and fleeing the country.
