Figueres
Still
To
Confirm
or
Deny
His
2014
Presidential
Bid
Former
president
José
María
Figueres
has
yet
to
confirm
- or
deny
-
his
2014
presidential
candidacy,
but
made
it
clear
that
the
time
to
start
the
presidential
rate
is
the
middle
of
next
year.
Returning
to
Costa
Rica
last
December
after
a
seven
year
absence,
speculation
is
that
he
will
be
seeking
the
Partido
Liberacion
Nacional
(PLN)
party
nomination
to
run
for
president
in
2014.
If
he
does
announce
his
bid
he
will
be
up
against
former
ministro
de
la
Presidencia
Rodrigo
Arias
and
San
José
Mayor,
Johnny
Araya,
among
others.
The
only
confirmation
the
former
president
would
make
is
that
he
will
be
presenting
his
"Ruta
País",
a
presentation
that
contain
projects
of
national
internet
that
could
be
implemented
in
the
medium
term.
At
the
time,
Figueres
said
he
would
reveal
the
names
of
those
commissioned
to
the
project
and
will
announce
a "Consejo
Conusltivo"
(Advisory
Council)
that
brings
together
people
from
different
regions
and
political
parties.
With
respect
to
the
PLN
party
politics,
the
former
president
criticized
the
move
to
hold
the
nomination
convention
in
March
instead
of
the
PLN
tradition
of
holding
the
convention
mid
year
on
the
year
before
the
elections.
The
move
was
promoted
by
Rodrigo
Arias
who
had
called
for
a
January
convention,
as
party
leaders
settling
in
March
when
declared
candidate
Araya
objected
and
held
that
for
the
traditional
mid
year
convention.
