Honduras Investigates Murder of a National by DEA Agents

Honduras is investigating today the murder of Juan Ramon Rivera by an agent from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) during an operation on the Atlantic coast.

Honduras has been charged with investigating the case, said a spokesman from the U.S. embassy in Tegucigalpa, Steven Posivak, quoted by El Heraldo national newspaper.

The crime occurred on Friday, June 22 in the middle of a joint operation of the Armed Forces, the Honduran police and agents from the DEA, in the community of Brus Laguna in the department of Gracias a Dios, also known as La Mosquitia.

Honduran and American officers seized 360 kilos of cocaine from an aircraft that landed in the region, the Public Security Ministry noted.

However, they did not report the murder of the alleged drug trafficker by a DEA agent, said the El Heraldo report.
