Cars Imports Increase in Ecuador

Imports of motor vehicles increased in Ecuador, which registered until the third week of June through the port of Manta, Manabi province, 58.3 percent of what the national concession imported in 2011.

According to the records of the Port Authority of the town, 21,065 cars to date have landed, which is equivalent to 58.3 percent of the 36,297 vehicles imported in 2011.

The number of vehicles, cargo and tourists entering this port show a significant increase in recent years, and only the movement regarding cars, reaches more than 76,000 units admitted between 2010 and 2011.

General cargo over the past two years has exceeded 150,000 tons over the load in the last 10 years, which bases the government's decision to take advantage of natural conditions as the Port of Manta as Ecuador´s Deepwater Port.

For this, the authorities consider a benchmark investment of $ 282 billion USD in infrastructure, superstructure and equipment, which will be funded in partnership of the State ($ 106 million USD) and the current concession operator selected ($ 176 million USD).
