Costa Rica Announces Ambassador To Nicaragua

Despite that relations between Costa Rica and Nicaragua have yet to recover following the October 2010 alleged invasion of the Isla Calero by the neighbour to the north, Costa Rica has announced an ambassador for Nicaragua.

Presidenta Laura Chinchilla, following a cabinet meeting Tuesday, announced the appointment of Javier Sancho as Costa Rica's ambassador to Nicaragua.

But, there are conditions.

The President said that Nicaragua has to demonstrate that it is fully complying with the measures established by the International Court of Justice in The Hague with respect to the Calero conflict between the two countries.

Sancho, who is currently the Director of Protocol at the Foreign Minister will be credited in the coming days and will move into the post within the next two months.

Costa Rica does not currently have an ambassador in Managua.
