Surf
Competition
Hits
Nosara
There
is a
new
competition
in
Nosara
that
is
set
to
test
the
skills
of
local
surfers.
Organized
by
the
Nosara
Tico
Surf
School,
the
tournament
will
be
an
opportunity
to
raise
money
for
the
regional
men’s
surf
team
and
their
efforts
in
the
national
circuit.
The
tournament,
called
the
Triple
Crown
Surf
Contest
begins
on
March
10
at
Playa
Ostional
then
continues
on
March
17
at
Playa
Garza
and
will
conclude
on
April
7 at
Playa
Guiones.
Surfers
will
collect
points
from
each
round
in
order
to
advance
to
the
final
round.
Judging
will
be
based
on
several
characteristics,
according
to
organizer
Esteban
López,
including
size
of
the
wave,
length
of
time
riding
the
wave
consistency
and
style.
The
first
two
contests
will
feature
local
judges
and
for
the
final
round
two
judges
from
the
national
circuit
will
be
brought
in.
The
Money
benefiting
local
surfers
will
be
raised
through
ticket
sales
and
entrance
fees.
Its
$5
to
watch
and
$20
to
enter,
in
addition
Triple
Crown
has
$1800
in
surf
gear
and
accessories
to
give
away
as
prizes
throughout
the
tournament.
As
well
as
being
a
fundraiser
for
local
surfers
the
tournament
is
also
a
way
for
the
surf
school
to
honor
their
friend
and
brother
Abraham
‘Michiky’
Matacita,
who
died
four
years
ago
riding
his
bike
at
his
fathers
farm.
The
contest
starts
at
7:30am
and
features
several
categories
including
open
men,
open
women,
longboard,
tag-team
and
a
junior
category.
There
will
also
be a
live
DJ.
It
should
be a
good
day
with
sun
forecast
all
day
and
expected
wave
breaks
around
4ft.
