Tourist
An
unidentified
American
was
found
dead
in
hotel
room
of
Del
Rey
in
downtown
San
José,
in
the
area
known
as
"Gringo
Gulch".
Apparently
the
American
had
taken
a
"love
pill"
as
part
of
his
plans
to
spend
the
night
with
an
escort.
According
to
authorities,
the
man,
who
was
dead
at
least
eight
hours
before
he
was
found,
was
last
seen
in
the
hotel's
bar,
the
Blue
Marlin,
in
the
company
of a
woman,
who
left
with
him.
The
man,
believed
to
be
visiting
Costa
Rica,
appears
to
have
suffered
a
cardiopulmonary
arrest,
for
it
was
the
escort
who
advised
hotel
security
of
what
had
just
happened.
Authorities
say
that
a
mixture
of
"boner"
pills,
traces
of
cocaine
that
was
found
in
the
room
and
anticipation
of
what
to
come,
may
contributed
led
to
the
man's
death.
Foul
play
has
been
ruled
out
for
now,
though
agents
of
the
Organismo
de
Investigación
Judicial
(OIJ)
collected
evidence
at
the
scene
before
removing
the
body
to
the
Medical
Forensic
Centre
in
Heredia,
to
determine
the
cause
of
death.
This
is
not
the
first
time
that
a
guest
of
the
popular
hotel
has
died
under
strange
circumstances.
The
hotel
is
very
popular
spot
with
foreigners
and
locals
alike.
