90% Of Costa Ricans Support Comprehensive Sex Education In The Classroom

Nine out of ten Costa Ricans support comprehensive sex education in the classroom, according to a recent survey by the Asociación Demográfica Costarricense (ADC).

That is why starting Monday, fifteen organizations will demand by way of an information campaign that in the classrooms teachers talk about pleasure, decision, violence and sexual diversity.

The association says it will use electronic messages and media, like the giant screens located in with high traffic flow such as San Pedro mall, La Uruca, etc. to radio spots, all part of the their strategy

According to Lindsen Morera, ADC manager, the campaign “Educación Integral para la Sexualidad es Educación para la Vida” (Comprehensive Sexuality Education is Education for Life) will also be realeas through the social media like Facebook and Twitter.

According to the Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (INEC) - National Institute of Statistics and Censuses - there were 13.391 teenage (between 15 and 19) pregnancies in 2011 and 476 of girls under the age of 15.

The Red Nacional de Defensa y Promoción de los Derechos Sexuales y los Derechos Reproductivos (REDESER) - National Network of Defense and Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Rights - assures that access to comprehensive sex education for children and young people living in Costa Rica, is a strategy that, properly implemented, ensures positive results in terms of health.
