Baboon,
To
Have
a
Car
to
Play
For
a
Whole
Day
Is a
Gift
From
Heaven!
Hundayi,
in
an
original
and
unusual
test
for
their
latest
entry,
used
baboons
for
an
endurance
test
by
leaving
the
vehicle
parked
in
Britian's
Knowsley
Safari
park.
The
test
was
a
first
of
its
kind
to
be
conducted
on a
British
car
brand.
Hyundai
wanted
to
show
in
the
test
the
quality
of
the
materials
with
which
the
new
i30's
is
made
of,
and
how
easy
it
is
to
clean.
Felicity
Wood
(product
manager
at
Hyundai
i30)
said:
"At
Hyundai,
we
believe
in
thinking
differently,
so
we
decided
to
give
a
new
approach
to
this
test
of
durability.
'
As
soon
as
the
car
was
parked,
a
dozen
baboons
jumped
in.
The
punishment
perpetrated
by
monkeys
included:
jumping
up
and
down
in
the
seats
with
muddy
paws,
swat
panel
buttons
and
eat
their
lunch
in
the
car.
These
monkeys
are
incredibly
curious,
"said
David
Ross,
CEO
of
Knowsley
Safari
Park.
'There
was
a
time
when
there
were
40
monkeys
in
the
car,
pushing
it
to
its
maximum
limit,
that's
10
times
the
size
of
an
average
human
family!'
Many
of
the
monkeys
chose
to
play
in
the
trunk,
and
most
of
them
dirtied
the
interior
and
scratched
exterior
paint.
The
baboons
had
10
hours
to
play
with
the
car.
Apparently,
Knowsley
baboons
are
very
fond
of
cars.
In
fact,
last
year,
they
jumped
gleefully
on
the
car
of
Manchester
United
player,
Wayne
Rooney.
For
a
baboon,
to
have
a
car
to
play
for
a
whole
day
is a
gift
from
heaven!
'
David
Ross
said.
'If
you
put
them
(the
baboons)
in
any
car,
they
will
search
tirelessly
to
find
weaknesses
and
any
flaws.'
"The
fact
that
the
card
survived
with
only
a
few
scrapes
is
testament
to
the
quality
with
which
the
new
Hyundai
is
built,
'says
Felicity
Wood.
'The
monkeys
proved
that
cars
a
really
designed
ultra
strong!'
I've
seen
hundreds
of
cars
pass
through
this
park
and
be
vandalized
by
monkeys,
and
none
has
stood
so
long
and
in
as
good
condition
as
the
Hyundai,
"
said
David
Ross.
Hyundai
confirmed
that
the
car
will
be
analyzed
by a
team
of
engineers
and
some
of
the
findings
of
the
test
will
be
used
by
the
quality
control
department
to
help
improve
future
models.
Hyundai
donated
$1,600
to
the
Primate
Society
of
Great
Britain,
an
organization
dedicated
to
the
preservation
and
care
of
different
species
of
primates.
