U.S. citizen slain
in own home
David Kane, was murdered Jan
5. in his home in La Granja, San Pedro, the apparent victim of
a robbery.
Kane was found by a neighbor Saturday afternoon in the two-story
home in San Pedro, about 800 meters south of La Ferreterνa la
Mar.
It is suspected that the crime was by someone close to
Kane as there was no sign of a struggle. Kane, 58 years
of age, lived alone in the 3 bedroom house. He had lived
in Costa Rica for more than 5 years. The
garage door was left open when guards noticed that his
vehicle was missing. The vehicle was later found in
Alajuela, totally burned out as thieves traditionally do
so to eliminate evidence, especially fingerprints. The
vehicle was believed to be used to carry household
appliances and electronics taken from the home.
Authorities are still waiting the results of the autopsy
to determine the cause of death.
The murder shocked friends and neighbors.
His parents and sister survive him. His body is to be
cremated and returned to the U.S.
A memorial service will be held Jan 16. at 2pm in his
home, located 1km south of the Banco Nacional de San
Pedro, fifth house from the end of the street, left hand
side.
