A good Restaurant

I feel really sorry for poor Henry David Thorough. He was so completely satisfied at that stupid Walden Pond in Connecticut; he would have thought he died and went to Heaven if he ever would have had a chance to live here. I just finished a GREAT BLT sandwich while sitting out on my balcony. I counted 6 different butterflies visiting our flowers.

Bacon here is better than nearly all I ever had in the US. It is very lean and flavorful. Actually, all of the pork products here are excellent. The beef is not

I am writing today about a really good Restaurant we recently discovered. One of the very few negatives of living here is the difficulty to find, and the high cost of, really good beef steak or roast. The Ticos simply do not create Steers to generate good marbled beef. The good side of that is; the hamburger is very lean and flavorful.

Back to the Restaurant, the “La Piazzetta” in front of the Banco Costa Rica on the Paseo Colon. It is on the corner of Paseo Colon and just a couple of blocks north of the ARCR office. Phone: 778-8025. We went in because we were hungry and it looked very nice. When I asked if it was “muy cara” the Waiters all said no. I knew better, but we were ready to have a nice, fancy meal. Our very cheerful Waiter, Maurice Vega spoke English pretty well and wanted to practice so we helped each other. The place specializes in Italian foods and all of the items on the menu sounded great. We asked if the Special Filet (I could not pronounce what it is called) was good and, of course he said it was an excellent selection. It came with a Brown sauce with some kind of special mushrooms I had not heard of. We both ordered this Medium Rare and a couple glasses of House Merlot Wine. It was excellent so we ordered another glass.

He served a FRESH salad with oil and vinegar dressing and some very good sliced Garlic bread. Then he brought out the steaks. Each one looked like it weighed 12 ounces or more. When we cut into them; they were cooked just right (increasing Pink into the center which was almost Red). They were very tender and flavorful and there was no excess fat or gristle. The sauce was suuuuperb. We ate every bit on the plate.

We ordered one of the house special desserts that is like a bread pudding with Liqueur on top. WOW another homerun. The total bill with a good tip was close to $40, but we may die tomorrow and are not trying to leave much money to our children and grandchildren.

What a country!!!
