A Change in the Wind
By: Hank
There is a change in the wind...a shift in mood.
People who are part of a group are usually viewed as
"one".
When you read about yourself in, let's say, a newspaper
that refers to you as "Villalobos Investors", you
still think of yourself as an individual.
The "Group of Investors" however is perceived as a
cohesive herd, thinking, acting and responding like clones.
"Fools" according to a certain President.
"Believers" according to a roly-poly media clown.
Neither is true, of course. Sure, there are the extremists who
either want to kill or pray to Don Enrique, but the majority
is fairly level headed and are dealing with the blows that
they have received in the best possible way.
It seems that after the initial shock and financial despair,
the real fear is leaving our ranks. Although some uncertain
financial futures have yet to be dealt with, it all suddenly
seems survivable and it is possible to get a glimpse of what
lies ahead beyond the Ridge of Ruin.
It is only money...
Even the reports blaming investments gone bad as the cause of
suicides were unfortunate and inaccurate but possibly wistful
thinking on part of the authors, in an attempt to give our
collective pain some depth and to make outsiders aware of the
seriousness of our suffering.
Pets were introduced into this Carnival of Calamities and
publicly threatened with an untimely demise, provoking
financial aid. I may have a few kamikaze cats around if you
feel generous...
Some of us have moved back to were we came from and are
picking up of where we left of. Others decided to make more
radical changes and are searching out opportunities and
planning new beginnings.
Many are left in Costa Rica and have done absolutely nothing,
and a few are spearheading an ongoing effort to bring justice
which will benefit us all.
All 6289. If you still believe
that number; fine, be that way.If you still believe that "The List" is of any
consequence, be my guest. This telephone directory without numbers is not worth the
paper it is printed on.
But we are talking about a large group. A group that has been
torn apart by all the events of the last eight months.
Scams have come and gone, fees have been paid to lawyers,
groups and con-artists. Bad money after bad money. Will
we ever learn?
As a result, hopes have risen and fallen on the terrible tide,
hanging on has become part of our day.
Really, this lifetime has only played for eight months, hard
to believe isn't it?
And if you think that's long to you, from where you are
sitting right now, reading this, coffee or cocktail in hand,
imagine what it's like on "the other side":
Hiding away from an unjust system
because you know that they want you guilty you no matter
how innocent you are.
No family to comfort you, no familiar surroundings to put you
at ease, but with the knowledge and conviction that you can
hold your breath longer that any adversary...
This, my friends, will become the reason for our victory. The
most powerful ally that we have is the invisible one. The man
who is sacrificing much more than any of his friends and
lenders and who does not understand why we should have to be
constantly reminded of an already confirmed trust.
Because that is for children...and we left the innocence of
childhood behind when we entered the offices of our brothers
and pledged our trust.
But there is a change in the wind, the shifting of this mood
is ever so slightly, but it's upward nevertheless. Never mind
the Blabbering Boards or the Grieving Groups, pay no attention
to Ego's Everlasting and Light-years of Lunacy.
What it is going to take is sheer determination. Just as much
determination as The Man has holding his breath...
Is money really worth all of this? We are not talking about
the second coming of any deity, the saving of some unborn
whale or the survival of the universe.
We are talking about the Almighty Dollar, the root of all
evil...
Because we are being assured time and again that our money is
principally "intact" and Don Enrique seems to think
this worthy, we just may too adopt this notion.
Because, you see, it may not be about just the money or the
lives that this situation has affected and changed. It may be
about our will to endure and to survive, or at least a test of
our willingness to help another human being; one who caused us
to prosper and who made us feel wealthy.
After almost 24 years of very loyal service, both Brothers
could use a fraction of that in return. Just a tiny bit, just
enough so that they know that they are not doing this in vain.
And so that these men know that they are not alone.
You do not even have to give your entire supply of support,
trust and positive thoughts, just give them a small amount,
say three percent each month?
That will be more than enough.
Let us unite and let us be strong, let us be forceful and
speak as one!
Let us be patient and fight against wrong.
For that's my friends, how a battle is won...
