What is up to having a canal in Nicaragua? Are you sure the construction would.
do the people of Nicaragua any good in competing with the Panama Canal…

A full-blown canal makes little sense given Panama’s canal expansion. Nicaragua could do with a modern Atlantic coast port with cross-country rail for cargo.

An MOU is only the first step. It means absolutely nothing except the interested parties plan to examine the feasibilities, especially relating to financing.

“The Nicaraguan government has authorized the Hong Kong-domiciled firm to structure and manage the financing for the project.”

That means Managua doesn’t have the financial where-to-how to go out and garner funding.

I don’t see this going anywhere.

The use of mirror image of perhaps a few billion dollars of large multinational! Nicaragua , you don’t need this , only someone else does , rather invest this billion in develop your beautiful country and support your people! They will give you the best advise than of what to do! 30 billions will become 100 by the time you can have your gorgeous Nicaraguan canal , you can do a lot better to Nicaragua with that money! don’t trust this project! you will loose.

Today while going through old papers, we found an old newspaper clipping dated 2006 about the possible construction of the canal, and on investigation I discovered that just today Sept. 10th 2012 the contract was signed with China. What a coincidence for us to find it today. As former mariners, my husband and I wish the Nicaragians success in this venture.
