Am currently here in Costa Rica & this is big news … this is the main highway out of the capital, San Jose … it’s causing 2-3 hour lineups as traffic now has to go around, through residential areas .. the highway is set to re-open on Tuesday.

My only comment is, the authorities should have posted a sign well in advance of this temporary bridge starting the weight limit that the bridge can carry, period. How hard would that have been to do? Only the engineers know this information… would have been really be nice of them to share it. Maybe they will now, once it’s put back together.

They should just leave this there. Put some tape around it. Make it a monutment.. Tourist/ Costarricenses after waiting in traffic for hours can pass by this and see the stupidity of the country.

I’m new to Costa Rica and I find it strange and somewhat funny that if the side of a street or part of the pista sinks. They plant trees and put up cones and reroute you. Instead of fixing it problem right away. Why is that?

According to MOPT, it is the Crane Operator Company (Quiros) that has the obligation to apply for a permit to move such a heavy vehicle on the Nation’s roads and receive approval for a specific routing in advance of the move. I think that MOPT is off-the-hook on this one, strangely enough.

The fine for knocking down a bridge in Costa Rica is 94,000 colones. My last speeding ticket was twice that.
