States should probably be allowed to keep the lid on some things, mainly involving national security though to some extent perhaps also things that put public officials&#039; personal security at risk. This doesn&#039;t make the US the gold standard, but it tells you that &quot;political secrets&quot; are nothing new in &quot;democratic&quot; states.
