That is the problem with these so called green energy projects, they take land for agriculture out of production to produce so called green energy. In Arizona they have taken 10′s of thousands of irrigated farm land out of production to build solar farms, reducing the local economy to nothing because where the land used to require thousands of workers to produce now only requires a very few to look after the solar panels, it has devastated the local economy that used to support all the farm workers, farm equipment etc, it is all gone.

Jim Krueger, Lester does have a point. Once installed, there is very little maintenance to be done to keep solar panels performing as they should.

Over the course of millions of years, the earth has gone up and down in temperature. It is a natural occurrence, Pablo. The point I am making here is, those of who buy into global warming should do a bit more research.

With that said, I am in complete support of solar, and other alternative sources of power. I am doing research now, to supply my home in Asia.

My first question about this wonderful project….7 acres is Alot of land for 800 house power isn’t it? these types of projects are using up all the land that is needed for self sustaining Agriculture.

This is more about publicity than about generating clean electricity. The same amount of money could have been used to generate more electricity had they gone with a mirror array or invested it in more wind turbines.
My guess is that Japanese politicians are reaping PR benefits for these type of projects, it wouldn’t surprise me if the panels were made in Japan. And of course our wonderful Costa Rican officials will be taking credit for this as often as they can.
But in the end this didn’t cost CR a thing, so I wouldn’t complain. The maintenance on the panels should be minimal, and hopefully the prices for the panels will continue to drop so that when time come s to start replacing them ICE will be able to afford to do so.

ICE can say that all they like. Fact is that PV production emits nitrogen trifluorides – 17,000 times more potent GHG (greenhouse gas) than CO2. Wonder what the temp. coefficient is–how much power is lost when temp rises 1 deg. C above 25C? Solar UV radiation deteriorates the panels and wind/dust reduces efficiency. Can u see ICE workers dusting off from the Guanacaste winds with temps exceeding 30C without damaging the delicate panels?
