When we buy meds, we ALWAYS try to group our purchases and ask for a discount. We usually get from 10% to 15% off, for cash of course, but it is worth asking. And get to know your farmacia….they can be helpful at keeping your med costs low with other generic drugs sometimes.

What a suprise—-NO COMPETITION—-please show me where there is any competition in Costa Rica for anything! That is why everything is so expensive! Just what Costa Rica needs another new law—what a joke–Costa Rica can not figure out how to administer the laws they have now.

Absolutely incredible! And probably this news is related to a mystery that for several years I have been trying to solve: Costa Rica has very high rates of alcoholism, yet some 20 years ago the makers of anti-abuse, a drug that makes it almost impossible to imbibe alcohol after taking the pill in the morning, mysteriously puled out of Costa Rica and no one, including that lab, will tell me why. That pharmaceutical, together with other more recent developments along that same line, are the main weapon we have against alcoholism. The only thing available here now is counseling and the AA, neither of which is very effective by themselves. So now I am thinking of some kind of collusion between the wholesalers and the national brewers.
