Given the ignorance of the legislators, they may need more staff! On the other hand, yes, bloated government. Unfortunately this is the way Costa Rica works (or doesn’t work).

I think CR has learned a terrible lesson from the USA about bloated government. But not in a good way

But, Mickey. It’s one of the perks of the job to place relatives (here, almost everyone is related—genetically over generations) in well-paying positions. The term is nepotism and it’s “in your face” (a la Cespedes). But you are 100% correct that the cost of living for all of us is affected by a bloated government. One has to ask if it is ineptness at doing one’s job that they need so many “auxiliary” staff or pure nepotism. Ah well, we’ll just devise a new tax that coincidentally and statistically favors the expat population. Pura vida.

Well guess who pays for all of these people we do no need? Maybe if we got rid of 70% the cost of Govt would go down, remove 50% of Congress and cut all benefits!
