Everything you said is true. The gringos that think this is paradise have been here a short time or the extent of their contact with Ticos is at Auto Mercado. Try to do business here or get involved and really get to know what Ticos are like. It will go from paradise to hell real quick.

The union workers that were arrested should be fired, I have lived in CR for 10yrs, never heard any thing good about the dock workers and plenty that was bad.

I knew there was more to your comment.. I see so many here not understand the culture. Lying, stealing , cheating and stupidity a way of life. Never going to change the corruption and the top government officials try get as much as they can like high wages bonus consultant fee’s. Gringo hirer a worker he/she act friendly. While behind the smile deceit, jealousy and frustration. You then get involve with their personal problem. I seen two women here who moved across town just to get away from their domestic worker as she was stealing and smiling. They would bring clothes , shoes laptops from the states as gifts still not enough. Oh did you get the pantolones for me!?Never enough. They learned a hard lesson. Keep workers as that .. Okay enough of my blah blah

Dig- I stretched the story just a bit. I was in an expediter’s office with a Costa Rican partner ( I choke on those words because for sure you know a Tico will get you sooner or later and he did, but anyway we were outnumbered and my “partner was angry that they were upping the numbers after an agreement was already made so he pointedly asked me if I had my gun on me ( knowing I always carry) and I lifted my shirt and started to bring it out—you should have heard the loud yelling and moving around and cussing and carrying on that a Gringo was in their inner sanctum–with a piece! It was loud mayhem for a few very tense minutes where actually anything could have happened. As it turned out, thankfully I had the drop on them so even if one did have a piece–he would have got shot right then-I already was drawing. This was in a way back room of a hot sweaty dark expeditor’s office in Limon. Very seedy, very dangerous, and my partner was no body to mess with and he had years of shipping and trucking experience with so I was surprised they tried anything to be honest. Thankfully I didn’t understand what they were saying or calling me and my partner told them as much. So maybe you see how things can get out of hand and how people in Costa Rica get killed sometimes–they bring everything on themselves–they get what they deserve so don’t ever feel sorry . My ex partner actually deserves vengeance now–they are IDIOTS!!! That’s what cracks me up to read on certain sites how some Gringos are so bleeding hearts for these people and are so proud when they are “accepted” by their neighbors and so on. They have no real idea of what is actually going on in this culture==absolutely NO IDEA how two faced and full of lies and deceit from the old grandmothers on down. If the average Gringo could read and understand Spanish and read the daily news here–they would not be so innocently ignorant. Most Gringos have their deepest Tico experiences at the farmers market– just try to do business here–HA! You might find yourself reaching for your gun faster than you could have imagined. Believe me–it is better to NOT even have a gun here. You wouldn’t want to find out what would happen to you if you ever used it against a Tico. BYe Bye Gringo! It’s like my intelligent lawyer here told me, he doesn’t carry a gun because he would use it on the taxi drivers haha. And remember one more thing–They HATE us.

Duke star you got away with pulling your gun out?? WOW! There has to be more to that burp! From the course I took here you would at least loose your carry permit.

Solis knows shutting down this port for just a day or two cost everyone big money. Especially with all the Chinese crap coming in for Christmas. I suspect higher ups and other governments said if this happens it will cost CR dearly.

We all would like the same responses all over this country and actually lock up thieves and for minimal time of 5yrs. The prisons would be jammed pack in no time.. Build more better yet let them build them.

Yeah finally showing strength–what country will allow the ports to be shut by criminals? Finally CR shows some strength and now will the government please install some security cameras to catch the employees who make a mockery of Costa Rica by openly stealing whatever they want from whatever vehicle which is imported? I mean it is common knowledge that your radio, headrests, gas caps, seats–whatever can be stolen is stolen bythe dockworkers–in broad daylight yet! The country od Costa Rica is an international joke–Do you hear me? An international joke— can’t even ship in a car without it being stripped –or at least the danger of this happening is real. Don’t believe me? You must be a liberal hearted softy newby idiot with absolutely NO experience shipping anything in Costa Rica–and the taxes? anything they want–if you want to know the truth here it is……. the insider controlled shipping cartel charges whatever they want to ship/tax–absolutely the best job in Costa Rica–very inside VERY VERY INSIDE OPERATION.
