Also, while I didn’t know about the telephone tax (or cut of the traffic fines), I did know that the Red Cross used to raise money delivering phone books. That was nice, and I tipped them a couple times myself, but with next to nobody using phone books anymore, I wondered how they were managing to raise money.

Let’s check it out and see whether Red Cross executives earn inflated salaries or otherwise waste money, but I’m thinking that this is a pretty clean operation–a global non-profit–that we should support.

Maybe I’m wrong, but badmouthing the Red Cross strikes me as refusing to buy Girl Scout cookies on the basis of rumors about the scout mothers skimming off the proceeds. Maybe so, but let’s see if there is any truth to the allegation before we get all huffy.
