They are easy from seed, but you won’t get the same tree. If you plant Haas, you won’t get any fruit at all–you need to graft them.

Well, I hadn’t thought of that, but then, have you ever tried to start an avocado from a seed? I have, and let me tell you, it ain’t easy.

They may have been thinking of persons planting the seeds of the imported avocados without realizing they were imported and carry the disease.

Well, knock me over with a feather. We always thought avocados were one of the few things, along with bananas and coffee, that CR did not need to import! As for banning a product that is ready to eat, because it carries a virus that somehow might infect your current growing version of the same product doesn’t make much sense. Do people who buy avocados make a habit of taking the purchased ones into existing orchards???
