I have had the good fortune to visit El Salvador in 2006, and have since travelled there for at least one month or more on 5 seperate occasions since 2011; I will be returning to visit again in a couple of months.
I travel by ordinary bus, by private car with salvadorans, on foot, by taxi and by rental car.
I have many good friends in the middle-working classes who are uniformly hard-working, honest, generous, helpful and kind (I am a very good Spanish speaker).
We drive without incident from Ahuachapán to Guatemala–the last trip in January, I took the ADO buses from Mérida to San Christóbol, to Huehuetenango, and on to La Ciudad where I was met by my friends who drove me to my hotel in Ataco.
El Salvador is a beautiful coubtry with friendly and hard-working people–I’m aware of the gang violence and simply stay clear of their well delineated areas. I’ve never even had a cross look. I took the time to write this comment as I believe that there is more to this story and that Salvadorans deserve better. William Reckling.
