This is getting ridiculous. Political asylum is one thing…there is a new wave of “oh I am suffering send me to a country that pays the poor to be unemployed and lazy…”. Fire up that boat…send them home…and someday they will figure out how to rise above the tyranny on their own just as a boat full of colonists once did. This time the boat will land back on their own home shores. Costa Rica gave me hell at immigration one month after I was married to a Costa Rican and well into my residency paperwork, our lawyer had to come to the airport with the original documentation at 9pm on a Sunday…my certified CR copies were not enough to let me enter the country, nor my marriage certificate and husband……and I have put more than several hundred thousand dollars into this economy…and paid taxes. Lock borders folks…it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

When I recently returned to CR from a visit to Mexico, I was not permitted to enter the country because I did not have an airline ticket out of the country (yes, shame on me!). I was escorted up to the terminal to purchase an outgoing ticket $180 USD). And I, a respectsble pensionado and volunteer English teacher here! So, how and why does CR Migracion permit such a large number of migrants into the country without arrangements for them to leave – like all other “visitors”? Amusing and annoying at the same time!

Obtaining legal status in the U.S. is a different issue. I’m just suggesting a solution to either get the Cubans out, or keep them out of Costa Rica, which is a country that can least afford the expense of supporting them while they sit here.

Gee, then why not just set up an immigration center in Costa Rica (or Ecuador) where the U.S. government simply grants entry visas to all the illegal Cubans? Then they can travel just like the rest of us to our homeland. And no, I don’t mind the added tax burden of the thousands upon thousands of immigrants hitting our welfare rolls – I totally enjoy being overly taxed! Maybe in addition to housing, education, food stamps and welfare, we should give them guided tours of all of our nation’s great attractions! Disney should be their first stop. No matter that I, a lawful citizen of the United States, can’t afford to go there anymore…

If Mexico cooperates with the arrival of the Cubans by boat, then put them on a boat and take them directly to Mexico from Costa Rica, by-passing Nicaragua and the rest of the Central American counties. Likewise, if Ecuador accepts the Cubans without a Visa requirement, there should be a boat waiting in Guayaquil, Ecuador to take them directly to Mexico.
