Dall'Anese Man of the Year
The Spanish language daily newspaper La Nación has chosen chief prosecutor, Fiscal Dall’Anese, the person most in the news for the year for his role in the ICE-Alcatel and Fischel-CCSS scandals that saw two former presidents of Costa Rica in preventive detention, as well a score of other "high" government officials and members of high Costa Rican society, who are either in preventive detention, house arrest or on bail.

Focusing on Men to Combat Violence Against Women
Brazilian television viewers witnessed an unusual scene on Thursday: a soccer player commits a foul, not against a member of the other team, but rather against one of his own team-mates, and mayhem erupts on the field. ”Wherever there's violence, everyone loses,” declares a voiceover.

This is just one of the TV spots and print ads released in Brazil today to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. They are the work of the Patricia Galvao Institute, a non-governmental organisation based in Sao Paulo and devoted to raising public awareness about women's rights.
