Rodríguez to Goes to Jail!
A little after
5:30 this afternoon, former president Miguel Ángel Rodríguez arrived
at the largest prison in Costa Rica, La Reforma, joining another
former president, Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier who has been in La
Reforma for the past week.
Hernán Bravo Avoids Preventive Detention
Former
vice president of the board of directors at the Instituto
Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), who admits to having received
us$800.000 from Alcatel got a break from the
Juzgado Penal del II Circuito Judicial de San
José, who notified Bravo of the conditions of his freedom.
Figueres Resigns as Head of World Economic
Forum
José María Figueres Olsen, chief Executive
Officer of the World Economic Forum, has resigned with immediate
effect. The World Economic Forum has accepted his resignation.
Rodríguez Decision Expected Today
Sometime after 9:00am this morning a decision by Superior Ccourt
judge Gabriela Jara will make her decision known on where former
president Miguel Angel Rodríguez will remain under house arrest or
be sent to the La Reforma prison.
Figueres Keeping Quiet
Party colours and sides

Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) and the Partido Liberacion Nacional (PLN)
- have both been shaken up with accusations of wrongdoing and
corruption.
New Anticorruption Law Official
With the objective to detect
and punish dishonesty in public functionaries, the new anti
corruption law "Ley contra la corrupción y el enriquecimiento
ilícito" comes into effect today.

COLOMBIA:
Helping Reporters Identify and Deal with
Post-Traumatic Stress
A journalist whose emotions have been blunted by
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cannot reflect the pain suffered
by others and can cause great harm through their work, says Colombian
psychologist Marta Chinchilla.
The psychologist, who specialises in PTSD, provides assistance to
reporters in the eastern oil-producing Colombian department (province)
of Arauca, a war zone on the border with Venezuela.
In a recent workshop with a group of reporters from Arauca, she tried to
help them identify the symptoms of PTSD, which some people suffer after
they are exposed to a traumatic, stressful event.
The workshop formed part of an Oct. 22-24 seminar in the city of Arauca,
the provincial capital, organised by Media for Peace (MPP) -- an
association of Colombian reporters attempting to provide balanced
coverage of the country's four-decade armed conflict -- with support
from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation from Germany.
