Defrauding victims of extortion to return
stolen vehicles is the new crime modality in
Costa Rica, as professional fraud artists
have joined forces with extortionists and "robacarros"
(car thieves), with the sole intent of
defrauding the extorted ransom from owners
of stolen vehicles.

The 870 packets of cocaine hidden inside a
shipment of frozen shark began its journey
in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, travelled through
the Panama Canal, where it was transferred
to another container ship, making stops in
US ports and finally detected during a
routine inspection in Mexico.
