Fire Destroys Protected Areas
In Guanacaste
A forest fire that began on April 3 has
destroyed up to now nearly 300 hectares
(741.3 acres) of two national parks in the
Guanacaste province.
According to the Ministerio de Ambiente,
Energia y Telecommunicaciones (MINAET) -
Environment Ministry - the affected places
are in the area of Palo Verde.
In addition, 35 other events of this kind
have been reported in protected areas and
affected 722 hectares (1784 acres) more than
in the same period in 2009.
Fire control in Guanacaste, the second
largest province of the country, is more
difficult for the high temperatures and
humidity, the strong winds and the dry
vegetation. |
