Bolivian Lawmakers Request
Information on Terrorism
LA PAZ - The Constitution Committee of the
Bolivian House of Deputies informed on
Friday that it will summon the judicial
authorities and the Executive for debriefing
about the development of the investigation
into terrorism. The leader of the group of
the governing Movement toward Socialism
(MAS), Rebeca Delgado, noted that the
Committee plans to clear up claims of
alleged political persecution, as denounced
by the opposition.
The request for information about the
investigation is aimed at having questions
about the case responded and refuting the
opposition's lies.
Delgado pointed out that the MAS is not
carrying out the investigation into the case
of terrorism. The inquiry is being done by
judicial authorities and the Prosecutor's
Office, so there are no reasons to accuse
the government of persecuting and arresting
anyone with political ends.
The investigation began in April 2009, after
the Bolivian Police dismantled an irregular
cell in a hotel in Santa Cruz (east).
The leader of the terrorist group was
Croatian-Bolivian citizen Eduardo Rozsa, who
was shot to death along with two
collaborators as he tried to begin a civil
war in Bolivia.
Since then, several businesspeople from
Santa Cruz have been arrested for their
support for the paramilitary group.
