MANAGUA - Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos, is expected to start state visits to North Ossetia and Abkhasia on Tuesday to formalize relations with the two territories in the Caucasus, recognized as independent states only by four countries.

Santos is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday to the capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, and sign a declaration on the official establishment of diplomatic links and a consultation protocol between both Foreign ministries, according to an official e-bulletin.

He is also scheduled to hold talks with President Eduard Kokoiti, elected after a referendum held in November 2006.

Later, Santos is expected to travel to Sukhum, the capital of Abkhazia, where he will meet with President Sergei Bagapsh and Prime Minister Sergei Shamba, added the source.

Both, South Ossetia and Abkhasia were part of Georgia and are recognized as independent states only by Russia, Nauru, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

All other UN members consider them part of Georgia.
