Guns N'Roses
Guatemala Date
Cancelled
The Guns N'Roses
debacle in Costa
Rica had a
domino effect on
the Guatemala
show scheduled
for Tuesday,
April 13.
Although it is
not clear why
the Guatemala
show was
cancelled, it
certainly can be
attributed to
all the problems
in Costa Rica.
The promoter of
the Guatemala
concert, Éxito
Music and
Entertainment,
made the
announcement
Monday afternoon
before the band
was set to get
on stage in El
Salvador.
Pedro Michelena,
presidnet of
Éxito Music did
not give details
of the
cancellation nor
indications if
the show will be
rescheduled.
It appears that
once fans in
Guatemala heard
of what went on
in Costa Rica
and that the
Friday (April 9)
show would be
rescheduled for
Tuesday, the
same day the
band was to
appear in
Guatemala,
ticket sales
fell.
Fans in
Guatemala,
possibily losing
confidence that
the band would
definitely
appear, just
stopped buying
tickets
according to
Éxito Music.
According to
Óscar Morales,
of Somos Música
de Guatemala,
also involved in
the Guatemala
show, ticket
sales stood at
only 1.700, a
rarity for a
Guns N'Roses
date.
Morales added
that the
comments by Axl
Rose on Facebook
and Twitter also
affected sales
in Guatemala.
The businessman
did not flat out
blame Axl, but
implied that the
comments did
have an effect.
In addition
there was the
question of
logistics.
The tons of
equipment -
lighting and
sound system -
used by the band
still sat in
Costa Rica on
Monday. The
equipment was to
have been in
Guatemala on
Saturday, the
day following
the Costa Rica
concert, for
producers to
prepare for the
Guatemala date
on Tuesday.
The loss for the
promoters in
Guatemala is
estimated at
us$700.000
dollars.
