Heavy Rains Kill 3, Affect
Over 3,000 In Colombia
BOGOTA - The beginning of the winter season
in Colombia has seen three people killed,
one injured and 3,098 others affected by
heavy rains, the Colombian Interior and
Justice Ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry said in a statement that 12 out
of the 32 provinces of the country have been
affected by the rains.
"The rains also destroyed one house and
damaged 639 others," the ministry said.
"The National System for Disaster Prevention
and Attention has made a call to the mayors,
governors and coordinators of the regional
and local committees to activate their
eventuality and emergency plans for the
winter," Colombian Interior and Justice
Minister Fabio Valencia said.
Valencia noted that people should know how
to respond to an emergency.
Meanwhile, Risk Management Director Luz
Amanda Pulido said that during the first
days of April, seven storms have hit the
country, affecting 201 families.
