Police Say The Have Identified Students Responsible For Violent Acts

Notwithstanding wearing ski masks, police say they have identified the leaders of the university students responsible for the rioting the last couple of days following the riot at the Universidad de Costa Rica campus on Monday when police attempted to detain a corrupt campus transit official.

A group of students have taken it upon themselves to set bon fires in the middle of the street, disrupt traffic and cause panic among residents of the area in San Pedro.

The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), which has come under extreme fire for forcing their way onto the campus, says they have those responsible identified and will be making arrests.

The rebellious students have been calling for the head of the director of the OIJ, Jorge Rojas, saying that the police disrespected the univesity's autonomy, forcing their way onto campus when they were clearly not invited.

In contrast, another group of students have come out publicly to voice their opinion against the violent actions of their fellow students.

On national television on Wednesday, the group said, although they are not in agreement of the police action, they do not condone the violence of a small group of students.

A peaceful protest is being called for in the streets of downtown San José today, Thursday.
