Book on Nicaragua Launched in
Cuba
HAVANA - The situation of children and teens
during the Nicaraguan war of liberation was
revealed in the book Mascotas de la Guerra
(War Pets), presented in Havana on Thursday.
In a ceremony held at the headquarters of
the Organization of Solidarity with the
Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America,
Cuban writer Hedelberto Lopez Blanch told
Prensa Latina that the so-called pets were
minors who lost their loved ones during the
conflict.
He added that they were taken in, fed and
taken care of as adopted children of members
of the Sandinista guerrilla.
Lopez recalled passages of the war involving
regional countries like Honduras, where US
military bases were located.
Head of the Cuba's Communist Party
International Relations Department Jorge
Marti presented Lopez' work as a genuine
tribute to justice and truth, which, he
said, must never be silenced.
This research is a condemnation of what must
not be repeated in the history of humankind
and we must not allow it to happen again,
asserted Marti.
