Break Out The Umbrella The Rainy Season Is Here, Albeit Unofficially

Although the weatherman says no, the rainy season is not upon us in the Central Valley, yesterday afternoon's heavy rain and lightning told another story.

It began shortly after 2pm when the skies over the east of San José were dark. One could see what was to come, as it does every afternoon during the rainy season. But, wait, the rainy season is not here yet? Or is it?

Juan Diego Naranjo of the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) - national weather service - explains that this is typical of the transition period between the summer or "dry" and the winter or "rainy" season.

Officially the rainy season kicks in the Central Valley mid May.

However, three out of the past five days we have gotten rain in the afternoon and this morning (Saturday) San José is clouded over and drizzly.

Whatever the reasons, it is definitely time to make sure that an umbrella is always at hand.
