Argentina, Vietnam for
Deepening Links
BUENOS AIRES - Argentina president Cristina
Fernández and Vietnam Prime Minister, Nguyen
Tan Dung, reaffirmed today the will of both
governments to deepen their links and
increase cooperation.
Fernandez and Tan Dung, here on a three-day
visit, held a private meeting in the White
Hall of the government headquarters Casa
Rosada before presiding over the signing
ceremony of several protocols aimed at
deepening bilateral cooperation.
Among the documents signed there is a setter
of intent for the construction of a wind
farm, a factory to produce equipment to
develop that type of energy and an
electricity generating plant fed by the
force of winds.
A memorandum of understanding on cooperation
in economic and international relations, an
agreement of exchange in the cultural sphere
and another one for cooperation in the
energy sector.
Finally, a joint declaration extolling
cooperation between both nations was also
signed, reiterating the will to continue
deepening these ties.
For our country and our generation, the
Socialist Republic of Vietnam has an
important symbolic value and "showed to be a
small great people which has become today in
an independent country" said Fernandez
during the ceremony.
She also greeted the achievement of Vietnam
of becoming the biggest coffee and rice
exporter in the world and underlined that
bilateral trade increased between 2003 and
2009 over the average Argentina has with the
rest of the world.
Tan Dung, for his part, evaluated as very
fruitful the official talks and said to feel
as "brothers that understand each other with
a constructive spirit."
We coincide both in the orientation of
concrete measures in the economy, the
defense of national security and culture,
emphasized the Vietnamese head of
government.
Argentina and Vietnam established diplomatic
relations on October 25, 1973, although it
was not until the 90s that contacts received
a greater boost.
On February, 1999 in Hanoi was signed the
Final Protocol of the First Meeting of the
Mixed Commission Argentina-Vietnam.
Until this date, both countries have
exchanged over 50 official delegations,
including visits of President Carlos Menem
to Vietnam in 1997 and Tran Duc Luong to
Argentina in 2004.
Over the last ten years, about 30 agreements
have been signed in the political, economic
and scientific-technological spheres.
