Protests In San
José!
From the early
hours of this
morning,
teachers,
municipal
workers and
porteadores has
brought downtown
San José,
blocking traffic
with vehicles
and a march
along Avenida
Central. Many
others areas in
the country were
all affected,
though nothing
like the
violence in
Limón.

In the early
hours the
rotondas at
Guadalupe,
Zapote were
blocked. Traffic
on Paseo Colón
was slower than
usual.
Other points of
interest of the
protestors are
Cartago,
Heredia,
Alajuela and
Guanacaste.
By noon the
situation in San
José began to
calm down.
Authorities are
hopeful that the
protest will not
escalate to
violence.
The protest is
against the
proposed "ley de
salario único"
(single wage
law), while the
porteadores
decided to join
in the protests
for support of
their battle
with the
government to
legalize their
operations.
