Chavez, Evo Ratify Economic and Social Integration

CARACAS - President Hugo Chavez highlighted the importance of the visit of his Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales to Venezuela, the first one in a series of quarterly meetings that will strengthen the ties of friendship and bi-national cooperation.

The talks between the statesmen will focus on cooperative projects for the next five years, according to a schedule which began to be discussed in La Paz last week in the presence of Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro.

After welcoming Morales at the airport, Chavez said the agenda of the visit includes tours of the country's development zones among which stands a former large estate that became a productive unit of new type.

"We are coming together and now we do it forever, on the same soil, in a single breeze, under the same sky, with great love. Only through this we will accomplish the great South American homeland," said the head of state during the reception at the international airport in Barinas.

He added he has the dream of uniting Venezuela and Bolivia through a long railway in the south.

"Evo comes with 500 years behind him, with the struggles of the Inca, the Aymara, with that great socialist world that these South American lands were before the arrival of the Spanish invaders".

After the ceremony that honored him at the airport, Morales confirmed the profound ties of friendship between the two nations.

"There is a huge brotherhood between Venezuela and Bolivia, I am very happy to be here", he told reporters.
