Argentina Assumes MERCOSUR Parliament

BUENOS AIRES - Argentina is assuming the temporary presidency of the Southern Common Market's (MERCOSUR) Parliament on Monday, represented by Senate president pro tempore Jose Pampero.

The ceremony will take place at the Upper Chamber's Reading Hall, with the participation of legislators from Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

Argentina will assume that responsibility in the first half of the year.

An official note from Argentina's congressional headquarters explained that in the first semester, the regional Parliament is expected to hold its sessions in the capitals of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, as well as Uruguay's Montevideo, where it has its permanent headquarters.
