Young Vote Could Be
Deciding Factor In Sunday's Presidential
Election In Costa Rica
The 2010 presidential elections in Costa
Rica may be decided by young voters more
than ever, as they make up 42% of the voters
or 1.2 million between the ages of 18 and 24
years of age. And this group is also shows
the highest rate of abstention, according to
the La Republica newspaper.
The daily reports that in the opinion of Professor of Political
Sciences at the University of Costa Rica,
Alberto Cortes, that is a large enough group
to overturn the result of the elections to
be defined on tomorrow.
On Wednesday, the government made a call to
the people to go cast their vote.
The ministro de la Presidencia, Rodrigo
Arias, asked voters not to stay home and
watch the elections from the sidelines,
reminding people that this election does not
come cheap, and people have a duty and
responsibility to take part.
