African Bee Attack in
Quepos Kills Canadian Tourist, Two Others In
Hospital
The attack by a swarm of Africanized bees
near Quepos claimed the life of a Canadian
tourist on Wednesday, sending two other to
hospital, one in serious condition.
The Canadian tourist was only identified by
Cruz Roja (Red Cross) personnel as Clara.
The bee attack also sent an American man,
Clara's husband, who was identified as
William Marcel to hospital and well as their
Costa Rican guide, Jorge Masís Vindas.
The attack occurred around 3:30pm a
kilometre east of the Villa Nueva school in
Quepos.
Others were stung by the attacking bees, but
no other serious injuries were reported.
The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
is investigating the mortal attack, while
the Cuero de Bomberos (firefighters) cleared
the remaining wasps from the area.
